Why We Keep Cream Legbars
We keep Cream Legbars as a supporting breed within our program for their practicality and genetic clarity. Their ability to produce blue eggs and offer auto-sexing chicks makes them a useful and efficient breed for thoughtful flock planning, both here on the farm and for those raising them at home.

Cream Legbars are not raised here for novelty or exaggerated traits. Our focus is on maintaining birds that reflect the breed’s intended purpose: reliable blue egg production, functional structure, and consistency over time. By keeping expectations realistic and selection measured, Cream Legbars remain a balanced part of the farm rather than a focal preservation project.

Stewardship & Breeding Work
Cream Legbars are bred with attention to health, functional structure, and consistent blue egg production. Selection is measured and ongoing, with an emphasis on maintaining genetic clarity rather than pushing rapid change.
A Brief History of the Breed Variety
Cream Legbars were developed in England in the early twentieth century through deliberate breeding aimed at creating a practical laying bird that could be sexed at hatch. Early breeders used Brown Leghorns and Plymouth Rocks, later introducing blue-egg genetics from South American chickens, to establish the foundation of the Legbar breed.
The result was a purpose-built bird that combined efficient egg production with auto-sexing capability and blue egg color. Cream Legbars were designed for function rather than ornament, valued for their lighter build, active nature, and usefulness in working flocks. Today, they remain distinctive for the clarity of their genetics when thoughtfully selected and maintained.

Program Focus & Ongoing Evaluation
Cream Legbars are maintained as a supporting breed within our program with many of their defining traits already well established. Blue egg color and auto-sexing ability are considered foundational, while our ongoing attention is directed toward overall health, vigor, and consistency within the flock.
In the absence of a formal APA standard, we look to the broader Cream Legbar community and proposed standards as a guide, particularly in regard to type and color refinement. Crests are considered essential, but practicality matters as well; we favor birds with sufficient crest development that does not interfere with vision or function in a working farm environment.
Evaluation is ongoing and hands-on, shaped by how birds perform over time rather than by isolated traits. This allows us to maintain Cream Legbars that are healthy, functional, and aligned with both breed intent and real farm conditions.
Why We Emphasize Hatching Eggs & Chicks
For Cream Legbars, we place greater emphasis on offering hatching eggs & chicks rather than maintaining large numbers of older birds. This allows us to keep the breeding flock balanced while continuing to evaluate health, vigor, and overall consistency without expanding beyond what the farm can responsibly support.
Birds that remain on the farm through maturity are thoughtfully integrated either into breeding groups for olive egger creation or into our farm fresh egg flock, where their blue eggs add variety and beauty for the families who shop here. This approach lets the birds continue to serve a purpose while keeping the overall program sustainable and connected to the farm’s daily rhythm.
Focusing on hatching eggs & chicks also gives customers the opportunity to raise birds from the start and integrate them naturally into their own flocks. Availability remains limited and reflects the needs of the birds and the farm rather than a fixed production schedule.
Following the Program’s Progress
As the program continues to develop, we share updates, photos, and seasonal progress through our social channels. This allows those who are interested to follow the evolution of the flock over time and see how long-term selection translates into visible improvement.

Important – Please Read Before Ordering
Due to the fragile nature of hatching eggs and variables involved in shipping and incubation:

Shipping Damage
If eggs arrive damaged, clear photos and video of the packaging and contents must be provided on the day of delivery, including the exterior box, interior packaging, and all damaged eggs. Once documentation is received, we will review and work toward an appropriate resolution.

Hatch Rates
We do not guarantee hatch rates. Hatch success is influenced by postal handling, incubation practices, equipment accuracy, and environmental conditions beyond our control.

By placing an order, you acknowledge and agree to these terms.
Chicks

Cream Legbar Cockerels at Hatch
Straight Run Chicks
• $15 each (0–2 weeks)
• $20 each (3–4 weeks)
• Pricing reflects the 2026 season

Straight run chicks are offered directly from the hatch and reflect the natural outcome of that specific hatch. Choosing straight run means your order will be filled from what hatches in that batch, without selection for sex.

For example, if you order 15 straight run chicks and the hatch produces more pullets than cockerels, you will receive that natural ratio. If the hatch produces more cockerels than pullets, the same applies. Straight run pricing reflects this shared risk and reward and is handled as fairly as possible based on hatch results.

Pullet Chicks (Auto-sexing)
• $22 each (0–2 weeks)
• $32 each (3–4 weeks)
• Pricing reflects the 2026 season

Because Cream Legbar are an auto-sexing variety, we are able to offer guaranteed pullets in limited numbers. Pullet availability depends on hatch outcomes and is more limited than straight run offerings.

Chicks are offered in limited, seasonal batches. Availability varies by hatch.
Requests from specific breeding pens may be accommodated in limited situations.

All chicks hatched on the farm are wing-banded at hatch for identification and tracking.

Availability announcements are sent by email when ordering windows open.
