Why We Raise Zombies
We raise F1 Zombie Eggers specifically for customers who want a bird that stands out visually while still contributing meaningfully to their flock. This cross is designed to combine hybrid vigor with strong laying ability, creating a hardy, active pullet that fits well into everyday flock life.
By using well-performing White Leghorn hens as the foundation on the laying side, we intentionally prioritize egg production and efficiency for the customer. The Ayam Cemani influence brings the distinctive black skin and striking contrast that gives these birds their unmistakable “zombie” look, without turning them into novelty birds that lack function.
F1 Zombie Eggers are not about rare eggs or breed preservation. They’re about offering a healthy, productive, and visually unique hybrid that customers can enjoy watching in the yard while still collecting reliable white to cream eggs for the kitchen. Occasional traits like heterochromia add to their individuality, but the real value is a bird that performs well and adds personality to the flock.
Why They’re Called F1 Zombies (and What That Means)
Despite the name, F1 Zombie Eggers are very much alive and thriving. The nickname comes from their striking appearance, where black skin combined with mostly white feathering creates a high-contrast look that’s a little unexpected and hard to unsee once you notice it.
In our program, F1 Zombies are created by crossing an Ayam Cemani cock with White Leghorn hens. The result is a first-generation hybrid that benefits from hybrid vigor, often showing strong health, activity, and laying ability. The White Leghorn influence supports egg production, while the Ayam Cemani contributes the dark skin pigmentation that gives these birds their signature look.
Most develop an ermine-style pattern, and a few may even show unusual traits like heterochromia (two different eye colors). Not every bird will look the same, and that’s part of the appeal. The goal isn’t uniformity or a new “breed,” but a functional, healthy layer that happens to look like it walked out of a slightly spooky storybook.

Living With F1 Zombies
Living with F1 Zombie Eggers is much like living with any alert, high-energy layer. Because they carry White Leghorn genetics, they can be more active and occasionally flighty, especially when young or in unfamiliar settings. With routine handling and a settled environment, most calm down, but they’re never going to be lap chickens.
That said, they are smart, observant birds that do well when given space and structure. They tend to be efficient foragers, quick learners, and well suited to flocks where movement and independence aren’t a problem. If you appreciate a bird with a bit of edge and awareness, they fit right in.
They may look a little undead, but behavior-wise they’re just energetic, functional chickens doing what they were bred to do — and no, they are not trying to eat you.

Breeding Pen
For those interested in a closer look at this cross, F1 Zombie Eggers are produced from intentionally selected parent stock chosen for strong laying ability and overall health. Because this is a first-generation hybrid, our focus stays on producing well-started birds rather than developing a long-term breeding line.
Why We Emphasize Hatching Eggs & Chicks
With F1 Zombie Eggers, we emphasize offering hatching eggs and young chicks rather than maintaining larger numbers of older birds. Because this cross is produced intentionally as a first generation, focusing on eggs and chicks allows us to keep the parent flock balanced while producing consistent, well-started birds.
Offering birds at the earliest stages also gives customers flexibility in how they raise and integrate them into their own flocks. At the same time, it allows us to concentrate on flock health, hatch quality, and overall vigor without expanding the program beyond what the farm can responsibly support.
Birds that remain on the farm through maturity are integrated into our laying flocks, ensuring the parent stock stays productive and connected to the daily rhythm of the farm. Availability reflects natural timing and breeding pen structure rather than a fixed production schedule.

Following the Program’s Progress
As the program continues to develop, we share updates, photos, and seasonal progress through our social channels. This allows those who are interested to follow the evolution of the flock over time and see how long-term selection translates into visible improvement.
Pricing & Availability
Hatching Eggs

• $ 4 per egg
• Pricing reflects the 2026 season
-
Local pickup: Available by arrangement
-
Order size: Minimum 5 / Maximum TBA
Availability is seasonal, reflects nature's timing, and is communicated once breeding pens are established and the ladies begin to lay. Quantities are limited and may vary each week.
Eggs are marked with both breeding pen and collection date for buyer reference. As a courtesy, one additional egg is included for every five eggs purchased.
Availability is announced by email when eggs are offered. Subscribing to our email list is the best way to receive notification when ordering windows open.
Chicks

Straight Run Chicks
• $8 each (0–2 weeks)
• $15 each (3–4 weeks)
• Pricing reflects the 2026 season
Straight run chicks are offered directly from the hatch and reflect the natural outcome of that specific hatch. Choosing straight run means your order will be filled from what hatches in that batch, without selection for sex.
For example, if you order 15 straight run chicks and the hatch produces more pullets than cockerels, you will receive that natural ratio. If the hatch produces more cockerels than pullets, the same applies. Straight run pricing reflects this shared risk and reward and is handled as fairly as possible based on hatch results.
Pullet Chicks (Sex-Linked)
• $15 each (0–2 weeks)
• $20 each (3–4 weeks)
• Pricing reflects the 2026 season
Because F1 Zombies are a sex-linked cross, we are able to offer guaranteed pullets in limited numbers. Pullet availability depends on hatch outcomes and is more limited than straight run offerings.
Chicks are offered in limited, seasonal batches. Availability varies by hatch.
Requests from specific breeding pens may be accommodated in limited situations.
All chicks hatched on the farm are wing-banded at hatch for identification and tracking.
Availability announcements are sent by email when ordering windows open.
